The US Department of Agriculture issued a permit for the sale of artificially grown meat. It is reported by CNN.
According to him, Upside Foods and Good Meat received licenses to sell the so-called "cultured chicken meat". They said that "laboratory meat" is grown from cells taken from animals in large vats, similar to brewing vats.
The product has received all the necessary approvals not only from the US Department of Agriculture, but also from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The United States became the second country in the world to allow the sale of "laboratory meat". Before that, it was legally sold only in Singapore. For example, the Good Meat company advertised their product there, calling it "meat without slaughter" - "meat without killing." Representatives of the company note that "laboratory meat" can make the practice of meat eating more humane, and will also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global climate change.
Upside Foods plans to supply "laboratory meat" to Bar Crenn in San Francisco. When it will be possible to try test-tube meat there is still unknown. However, the company plans to sell its product in supermarkets in the future.
In turn, Good Meat announced that it is collaborating with a restaurateur from Washington, Jose Andres.
Meanwhile, according to the Financial Times, the shares of the industry leader in the production of "meat" from vegetable proteins, the company Beyond Meat continue to fall. At the moment, the company, which at the start was estimated at $14 billion, has lost 95% of its capitalization.
