A court in the Moscow region sentenced a defendant in the murder case of the owner of the Meat Empire to 20 years in prison.

Mavridi was found guilty of murder (Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code), illegal possession of weapons (Part 1 of Article 222 of the Criminal Code), kidnapping (Part 2 of Article 126 of the Criminal Code), unlawful imprisonment (Part 3 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code), extortion (Part 3 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code), escape from custody (Part 2 of Article 313 of the Criminal Code) and legalization of money obtained by criminal means (Part 4 of Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code).

According to investigators, Mavridi shot 54-year-old businessman Marugov with a crossbow on the territory of his house near Istra. The accused was arrested in November 2020. When security forces came to his apartment to search, they found a man handcuffed to the bed. According to the victim, he was extorted from luxury real estate in Moscow.

RIA Novosti wrote that the kidnapped person was lawyer Alexei Zavgorodii. The man was held hostage for about two years. As a result, he agreed to sign a general power of attorney to carry out transactions with his real estate to re-register ownership of three apartments and one parking space in Moscow, whose total cadastral value exceeded 71 million rubles. Their owners were relatives of members of the Mavridi gang.

In August 2021, Mavridi and four other prisoners escaped from custody in Istra - all of them were detained within two months. Mavridi later admitted to preparing an escape from the temporary detention center, and also said that he was hiding in abandoned buildings in Moscow and the region. A criminal case was opened against three employees of the temporary detention facility, where the prisoners had previously been held; in September 2022, they were sentenced to real terms from three years to three years and three months, having been found guilty of abuse of power (Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code).
