The mayor of Yakutsk accused the homeless of “corrupting people” and proposed sending them to labor camps

The mayor of Yakutsk, Yevgeny Grigoriev, said that the homeless should be sent to labor camps. This is reported by the local edition of "Echo of the Capital".

“'Homeless' is one of the visible consequences of the alcoholization of the population and mass unemployment of the category of the population that could work. Instead, they are engaged in drunkenness, corrupting people and spoiling public places,” Grigoriev said at a press conference as part of the national holiday “Ysyakha Tuymaada”. “I don’t feel sorry for them,” he added.

Grigoriev also said that "it is necessary to work on the creation of sobering-up stations in Yakutsk and return the labor camps."

In April, the parliament of Yakutia adopted a law on the creation of sobering-up stations. At that time, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Antonina Grigoryeva explained the need for such a law by the fact that, according to medical organizations, every year policemen deliver up to a thousand people in Yakutsk, up to 900 in the Mirninsky district, 500 in Neryungri in order to sober up.
