"The war will not go on forever." Russians are buying real estate in occupied Mariupol

Russians are buying apartments, houses and land plots in Russian-occupied Mariupol. "Paper" spoke to several people who are willing to invest in a completely destroyed city.

So, according to the publication, the Russians are ready to buy real estate in Mariupol "in any condition" and restore it on their own. On average, an apartment in the city costs about three million rubles.

"Paper" found out that there are no ads for the sale of apartments in Mariupol on the websites of "Cyan" and "Yandex Real Estate". However, journalists managed to find about 70 such offers on Avito. The most expensive of them is a two-room apartment on Prospekt Mira. It is being sold for eight million rubles.

“I consider it a good investment. Maybe it will seem strange to someone, but I believe in the development of the city. Under the wing of Russia, a great future awaits him. I think in the future it will become a popular place for recreation and tourism. It is of great importance for our country. The city is a hero. I have no fear that he may suffer due to hostilities. The worst thing that could happen there has already happened,” says Olesya from Omsk. She plans to buy an apartment in Mariupol.

Irina from Krasnoyarsk told Paper that she is looking for housing in Mariupol because she wants to "live by the sea in a place with good ecology." She noted that she was afraid of the resumption of hostilities, but at the same time she was sure that "the war will not go on forever."

“Also in Mariupol, there is still quite cheap real estate and more attractive salary offers for my husband - he works as an electrician. And the ecology in the city is much better than in Krasnoyarsk,” said Irina.

Another Russian, Eldar, explained the purchase of real estate in the occupied city by the fact that in the near future it "will flourish and be a good place to relax."

“I'm not afraid that the city may still suffer. Our borders are reliably guarded by the armed forces, the war is nearing its logical conclusion (at least in this region)," he said.

The fighting for Mariupol lasted two and a half months. The siege ended on May 16, 2022, when the Ukrainian military, who were on the territory of Azovstal, surrendered.

During the fighting for Mariupol, 90% of apartment buildings were destroyed, said the UN report . According to the organization, 1,348 civilians were killed during the siege and occupation of the city. Mariupol Mayor Vadim Boychenko reported ten thousand dead.
