A Rostov resident was sentenced to 2 years in a penal colony in the case of attacks on the websites of Russian companies due to a “negative attitude” towards the war

The Zheleznodorozhny District Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced local resident Igor Bayandin to two years in a penal colony in the case of attacks on the websites of Russian companies and banks. Bayandin was found guilty of illegally influencing critical information infrastructure (Part 1 of Article 274.1 of the Criminal Code); he was sentenced on June 23. In addition to his term in a penal colony, judge Andrei Kremenitsa imposed a fine of 500 thousand rubles on him.

According to the court, a Rostov resident “with special knowledge in the field of information technology” attacked the websites of companies operating in the communications sector, as well as the banking and fuel and energy sectors. According to the case materials, Bayandin did this “because he had a negative attitude towards the military action carried out by the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine.” No other details of the case are provided.

Previously, the Rostov Regional Court sentenced Evgeny Kotikov to three years in a penal colony for the same case and ordered him to pay a fine of 800 thousand rubles. The FSB claimed that the programmer “took the side of Ukraine” and joined a group of hackers whose actions led to the blocking of the websites of the Ministry of Defense and the presidential administration.
