The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case regarding the attack on Elena Milashina and Alexander Nemov

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the fact of attacking Novaya Gazeta journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov.

The case was initiated under articles on intentional infliction of harm to health of medium (112 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and light (115 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) severity, committed by a group of persons with hooligan motives using weapons. The maximum punishment under these articles is five and two years' imprisonment, respectively.

The UK noted that investigative actions are now being carried out aimed at establishing the circumstances of the crime and the persons involved.

• After the attack, Elena Milashina was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury, multiple (up to 14) fractures of the hands and multiple soft tissue bruises. Nemov said that he had "an infinite number of bruises and bruises" and a stab wound.
