The fifth case of anthrax infection was revealed in Tuva. This was reported in the department of Rospotrebnadzor in the republic.
“During the monitoring of contact persons, one more case of anthrax was registered. The total number of confirmed cases of the disease has reached five," the service said.
In turn, the Ministry of Health of Tuva reported that an air ambulance with a team of doctors on board flew to the Barun-Khemchik region to deliver the fifth patient to the hospital. “The patient’s condition is assessed as moderate,” they explained.
Previously, four people were known to be infected. All of them participated in the slaughter of a horse and butchering its carcass in the Barun-Khemchik region of the republic.
According to Interfax, more than 150 people have received vaccines in the outbreak against anthrax. All those who have been in contact with the sick are receiving emergency prophylaxis with antibacterial drugs. In addition, disinfection is being carried out in the pasture and shepherd's camp, as well as in the places of stay of the sick.
On the eve of the Minister of Health of Tuva Anatoly Yugay said that anthrax was confirmed in four of the six hospitalized. One patient was not infected.
The first person infected with anthrax became known on June 30. It turned out to be a 24-year-old resident of the republic, his condition was assessed as serious.
In March of this year, two cases of anthrax infection were recorded in Chuvashia, and later in the Moscow region. The head of the Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko, then claimed that there would be no further spread of the disease.
