Former CIA personnel officer and specialist in Russia Peter Clement told The New Yorker about whether Putin's departure from post is possible:

“Peter Clement does not see the future of Russia without Putin. He recalled one incident that happened during the Iran-Iraq war, when one of the advisers of Saddam Hussein suggested that in order to achieve a truce, Saddam would have to leave the post of prime minister. He was executed, and parts of his body were sent to his relatives the next day. Clement also said that "dictators do not like when they are asked to retire." And in this case, in his opinion, this is possible not so far from the truth: can Putin really leave his post? Who guarantees him security? Will his successor feel comfortable, feeling Putin’s presence somewhere nearby? Clement said: “Putin is not Khrushchev, who can simply leave and live a peaceful life in the village.” This is a person who has a lot of enemies. ”
