The American company META has released the social network Threads similar to its competitor Twitter.

According to Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, more than five million users registered in the first hours of work on the social network. For entering Threads requires an Instagram account. At the same time, in the new social network, subscriptions on instagram-profiles that also use Threads will be saved.

Meta said that it plans to make Threads compatible with ActivityPub - technology that allows you to transfer its accounts and subscribers to other applications. This will open the "new era of various and interconnected networks," the company said.

In Threads you can write messages up to 500 characters long and publish five -minute videos. Now the application is available in Apple and Google stores hundreds of countries, including Russia through VPN. In the European Union it cannot be downloaded so far because of legislative restrictions.

Threads entered the market when Twitter takes more and more controversial steps. So, at the weekend, the social network limited the number of tweets available for viewing, up to 600 for most users. Earlier it was reported that the owner of Twitter, Ilon Musk, fired specialists in combating propaganda. Experts said that because of this, the social network "will become less and less safe."
