The Ministry of Health has supplemented the list of drugs subject to quantitative accounting with two drugs that are used for medical abortion. Attention to this was drawn by "Medvestnik".
According to the publication, changes were made to the draft order of the Ministry of Health, which was published on the regulation.gov.ru portal in the summer of 2022. It was planned that this document would come into force on April 1, 2024.
Now the list of drugs that are subject to quantitative accounting will be replenished with drugs such as misoprostol and mifepristone.
"Medvestnik" notes that the combination of these two active substances is used mainly to terminate pregnancy. At the same time, mifepristone in small dosages is also used for emergency contraception. For example, it is in the tablets "Agesta", "Ginepriston" and "Zhenale".
“You can buy only the last option, while selling high-dose drugs that can be used to terminate a pregnancy is impossible even with a prescription - such pills can only be issued by a doctor in a medical facility with subsequent monitoring of the patient,” the newspaper writes.
At the same time, the draft order of the Ministry of Health does not indicate the dosage of mifepristone. Medvestnik concludes that in this case, postcoital contraceptives will also come under increased control.
The publication "Kosa" clarifies that pills for emergency contraception are now registered in Russia, which do not contain mifepristone - these are, for example, "Postinor", "Escapel".
The day before, July 17, the head of the Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko , said that drugs for medical abortion should be "strictly controlled" in medical and pharmaceutical organizations. He also said that by the end of the year these drugs will be included in the list of drugs that are subject to subject-quantitative accounting. On July 18, Murashko also complained to the State Duma deputies about the “vicious practice” that has developed in the country - when women do not give birth, but make a career.
