The court found three of the four defendants guilty of the plane crash and the death of all passengers and crew members - Igor Strelkov, who then served as the Minister of Defense of the "DPR", the ex-head of counterintelligence of the self-proclaimed republic Sergei Dubinsky and their subordinate, Ukrainian Leonid Kharchenko.

According to Bellingcat, Strelkov has a fictitious passport in the name of "Sergei Viktorovich Runov." This document is allegedly linked in common series with forged passports of several FSB and GRU officers.
