In Russia, they will not increase the lower limit of conscription up to 21 years. This was announced by the head of the State Duma Committee on Defense Andrei Kartapolov. Thus, the recruitment age of military service will be from 18 to 30 years. The corresponding amendment was supported by the committee, the deputy added.

“The main amendment is that the upper limit is 30 years. The lower limit of conscription age was decided to leave 18 years, because a lot of guys want to go to serve in the age of 18,” says Kartapolov (quote for Interfax).

According to the deputy, new norms will not affect the autumn call of 2023. They will begin to operate in 2024.

The head of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu made a proposal to increase the age of the draft in December 2022. President Vladimir Putin supported the initiative. The government approved the proposal at the end of May.

In June, deputies of the State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill on a phased increase in draft age, which provides for a transition period until 2026.
In July, deputies adopted a law that increases the age of citizens in a mobilization reserve: up to 65 years for citizens with the titles of senior officers, up to 60 years for younger officers and up to 55 years for other titles.
