Vladimir Putin signed a law prohibiting surgical operations “aimed at changing the sex of a person” and changing the gender marker in the documents. This is stated in the document posted on the official portal of legal information.
According to the new law, it is forbidden to carry out sex change operations in Russia, except when this is due to the treatment of "congenital physiological abnormalities of sex formation in children." Such surgical interventions can be carried out by decision of the medical commission and only in state clinics.
Also, due to the innovation, transgender people should not adopt children and establish trusteeship over them, and the registry office should correct the gender marker in the documents. In addition, the marriages in which one of the spouses made the transition will be canceled.
Earlier, the 7x7 publication drew attention to the fact that the court in Irkutsk divorced the marriage of the transgender person before the entry into force of amendments on the prohibition of the transperesia. An unnamed citizen submitted an application for a change in gender marking in the documents two days after the marriage, which is why the registry office applied to the prosecutor’s office, and then the October Court of Irkutsk annulled the marriage. The head of the registry office, Valery Mitusov, said that he had previously asked the federal authorities to ban the change of gender marker, since the number of such statements has increased in recent years.
