Two opponents of forest development were fined in Orel

The Northern District Court of Orel fined two activists protesting against the construction of a road on the site of the Prokurovsky Forest 10 thousand rubles. This is reported by Oryol Meridian.

The women were detained on July 25 - they came to the forest to stop the cutting down of trees, which was carried out by workers without the necessary documents. According to activists, about 90 police officers and National Guardsmen were stationed around the perimeter of the forest so that local residents could not interfere with the work.

One of the women became ill at the police station after the arrest; she was taken away by ambulance, but then taken back to the police station. “I refused hospitalization, because otherwise the second detained woman would have been left alone at the station,” she explained.

Both detainees - Tatyana and Tamara - were found guilty of organizing a mass simultaneous stay of citizens (20.2.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses), the Oryol News publication clarifies .

“And this is because I demanded to see permission to cut down the forest and asked why they didn’t put up fences if they decided to cut down the trees? I was mentally crushed. I’m thinking: if they did this to us, then what do they do to real criminals?” noted one of the activists.

• The authorities of Orel have approved the construction of a highway that will pass through the Prokurovsky forest to the Solnechny Bereg residential complex. Local residents are opposed to this initiative - they want to preserve the forest, and are also unhappy that the road will pass in close proximity to their homes.
