The Investigative Committee opened a new criminal case after the attack on Novaya Gazeta journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov in Grozny. the Federal Chamber of Lawyers about this Nemov informed .

A new case was initiated under six articles: on unlawful deprivation of liberty committed by a group of persons (paragraph "a" of part 2 of article 127 of the Criminal Code), obstruction of the professional activities of journalists (part 3 of article 144 of the Criminal Code), robbery (part 2 of article 162 of the Criminal Code), misappropriation by car (points "a, c" of part 2 of article 166), the threat of murder and infliction of harm to health against the prosecutor, investigator or defense counsel (part 4 of article 296 of the Criminal Code), as well as on the theft, destruction or concealment of official documents (part 1 of article 325 UK).

In addition, another victim appeared in the case - a taxi driver who drove Nemov and Milashina from the airport.

Earlier, on the fact of attacking a journalist and a lawyer, a case was initiated on intentional infliction of harm to health of moderate severity (paragraphs "d, e, h" of part 2 of Article 112 of the Criminal Code) and intentional infliction of minor harm to health (paragraphs "a, c" of part 2 of Article 115 UK). The new case has been merged into one proceeding with the earlier one.

According to Alexander Nemov, the new list of articles corresponds to his assessment of what happened. “I was positively surprised by the presence of an article on obstruction of justice. That is, the investigation accepted my testimony that the attack was related to my work in a criminal case as a defense lawyer.” Nemov's lawyer Yevgeny Rubinshtein noted that the initiation of a new criminal case was made possible thanks to the detailed testimonies of the victims.

At the same time, Alexander Nemov, who was stabbed in the leg, believes that in parallel, the Investigative Committee should initiate a case on causing harm to health up to death (Part 4 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code). “Everyone knows that vital vessels pass through the leg. And the person striking should have understood this, ”said the lawyer.

Alexander Nemov and Yelena Milashina were attacked on July 4 when they flew to Grozny to hear the verdict of Zarema Musayeva, the mother of Chechen oppositionists. The lawyer and the journalist were severely beaten, and then their equipment was taken away and destroyed. The attackers put a gun to the heads of Nemov and Milashina and threatened to shoot them. Elena Milashina broke several fingers, demanding to unlock the phone.
