In May, the Lefortovsky District Court of Moscow arrested 25-year-old Ukrainian citizen Lenia Umerova on charges of espionage. She lived in Crimea, and after its annexation she moved to Kyiv. In December 2022, Umerova decided to return to the peninsula to visit her father, who had cancer. Because of the war, she traveled through Bulgaria, Romania and Georgia. On December 4, Russian security forces detained Umerova at the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russian-Georgian border. First, she was accused of violating the rules of crossing the border, then protocols were drawn up against her for disobedience to the police, and in May she was charged with “espionage”.
