The activities of the Center for European Studies recognized "undesirable"

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia recognized the “undesirable” in Russia of the Wilfried Martens Center for European Studies. Since 2007, he has been engaged in analytical work for the largest party in the European Union - the European People's Party.

The center is based in Brussels. The department argues that after the Russian annexation of Crimea, he began to form in Europe the "negative image" of the country in order to justify the need for political, military and sanctions pressure on Moscow. And after a full -scale military invasion of the Russian Federation to Ukraine, the organization allegedly began to actively promote ideas about the need to "build up a comprehensive, including military, assistance to the Kyiv regime."

Also, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the center experts distribute theses about the need for legislative and economic reforms in Russia in case of a change in power. ”

The European People’s Party, for which the Martens Center operates, includes the centrist and conservative parties in Europe - many of them occupy cautious positions on the relation to Russia and support the idea not to break out the final cooperation with Moscow even despite the war in Ukraine.

Nevertheless, not one of the deputies of the party faction in the European Parliament voted against the resolution that recognizes Russia with a sponsor of terrorism. The faction also adopted a resolution on the need to adopt Ukraine in NATO as soon as possible.

• The law on unwanted organizations in Russia was adopted in 2015. The recognition of the organization is undesirable means that any of its activities in Russia is prohibited, and cooperation with it can lead to initiation of a criminal case and punishment in the form of imprisonment.
