Ivan Zhdanov said that most of the materials in Navalny’s case are screenshots and photographs that are not related to the politician

FBK director Ivan Zhdanov said that 196 volumes of Alexei Navalny’s “extremist file” consist mainly of screenshots of various social network accounts and photographs that are not related to the oppositionist. In addition, there are duplicate pages in the case file.

“All 196 volumes are just dummy. There's nothing there that makes sense at all. They didn’t even try to pretend that they were making up a real criminal case,” Zhdanov noted. According to him, in particular, among the documents there is a sheet with a screenshot of Leonid Volkov’s post on Instagram with a photo of his little daughter. Volkov’s publication with a photo from the airport was also included in the case file.

“During the inspection it was established that on March 18, 2014 Volkov L.M. published a post in which he indicates that he loves Barajas, the main international airport of the capital of Spain, Madrid,” reads the description of the screenshot. Investigators added screenshots of reviews of Volkov on the cryptocurrency exchange to Navalny’s case materials.

In addition to publications by Navalny’s associates, the documents, according to Zhdanov, contain an “endless” number of protocols for inspection of Internet resources - “one volume consists almost entirely of photographs of pages of the online magazine Hill , where there is simply a mention of Alexei Navalny.” On one of the sheets from the case materials there was a screenshot of a blank browser page with the investigator’s bookmarks: “Boiled omelet”, “Vegetable dishes”, “Patterns for fat people”. The file also contains photographs of notebooks with blank pages.

Navalny’s associates also found out that a few days before the start of the hearings on the “extremist case,” judge Andrei Aleksandrovich Suvorov called FSB officer Denis Khvorov. Then three meetings took place in a row and they contacted again. What exactly Suvorov and Khvorov discussed is unknown. Last year, when Navalny was tried on articles of fraud and contempt of court, judge Margarita Kotova called an employee of the presidential administration.

Today, the Moscow City Court, at an off-site hearing in IK-6 in the Vladimir region, sentenced Navalny on an “extremist case.” The politician was accused of calling for extremism, creating an NGO that infringes on the rights of citizens, financing extremism, creating an extremist community, involving minors in committing dangerous acts, and rehabilitating Nazism.
