Moscow's Babushkinsky District Court has ordered compulsory treatment in a psychiatric clinic for eco-activist Olga Kuzmina because of her protest against renovation and tree felling. This was reported by the lawyer representing her interests from OVD-Info.
Kuzmina is charged with hooliganism (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code). The investigation sees the elements of the crime in the fact that she climbed a tree and tied herself to it, taking with her a crossbow that was unsuitable for shooting. The prosecution representative asked to release her from criminal liability and "to apply medical measures to her in a specialized hospital."
The case was re -submitted to court in November 2022. The prosecutor's office had already completed the investigation several months earlier, but the Babushkinsky District Court of Moscow ruled to return the case to the prosecutor's office to correct the violations. During the hearing, the judge acknowledged that Kuzmina's rights to defense and to familiarize herself with all the case materials had been violated.
Since August 17, 2021, the girl has been under house arrest. In July 2022, Olga Kuzmina was forcibly hospitalized in a psychiatric hospital for a week for an examination. By that time, the decision to conduct an examination had not yet entered into force.
In their conclusion, the doctors indicated that the girl’s character was characterized by “willfulness, predominantly oppositional, negative behavior, a tendency toward litigation and protest reactions.”
