Baryshnikov’s mother on July 1 turned 97 years old. Evgenia Veniaminovna was a disabled person, the victim of the Holocaust, and the Hesad charity fund helped to care for her. The son was her only guardian. As the activist himself said, two years ago she recognized him and relatives and even read the news on the Internet. But she fell into unconsciousness after the arrest of hucksters in 2021 for participating in rallies in support of Navalny. Evgenia Veniaminovna did not react to the searches with which the Baryshnikovs came to the Baryshnikov apartment in the case of fakes.
After Baryshnikov was convicted, by decision of the court, the social services had to take her away, but Baryshnikova’s defense filed a complaint, Baryshnikov’s wife began to issue a guardianship of the disabled person.
On June 22, the court in Kaliningrad sentenced the 64-year-old activist to 7.5 years in prison in the case of Fakes about the Russian army. The court’s decision was not affected by a difficult diagnosis of an activist - young ladies suffer from oncology, he has a cytostoma (a tube in the stomach). Now he is in jail, in unsanitary conditions.
Baryshnikov is a famous Kaliningrad activist, he participated in street protests and was arrested several times.
After the start of the war in Ukraine, Igor Baryshnikov posted critical posts about the war in Ukraine and the current government on his Facebook page. He wrote about the bombed maternity hospital in Mariupol, about the actions of the Russian army in Buch, and also published references to the articles of foreign media.
On May 5, in relation to Baryshnikov, the first case in the Kaliningrad region was opened under the article on the "public distribution of knowingly false information about the use of the Russian armed forces." The decision to initiate a criminal case states that Baryshnikov placed 18 posts with "discrediting" on his page.
Later, five administrative protocols were drawn up for the activist on the "discredit" of the Russian army, as well as on insulting power. According to Baryshnikov, these cases were instituted because of his posts about hostilities in Ukraine, as well as because of his emotional statement about President Vladimir Putin.
In June 2022, it became known about the initiation of another criminal case about Fakes against Baryshnikov - because of his post on the social network about the Moscow cruiser.
