Relatives of Chechen human rights activist Yangulbaev were sent to war in Ukraine

Chechen human rights activist and oppositionist Abubakar Yangulbaev reported that four of his relatives were forcibly sent to fight in Ukraine.

We are talking about his uncle, 55-year-old Said-Akhmed, as well as his cousins, Adam, Yusup and Khasan Yangulbaev. Now, according to Abubakar, they are in Donetsk. The “agency” writes that they were registered as volunteers.

“A rally against us, bullying, threats, persecution, abdication, a mother being held hostage and deprivation of the right to the homeland are not enough,” Abubakar wrote in his Telegram channel.

Abubakar Yangulbaev is the son of former judge of the Supreme Court of Chechnya Saidi Yangulbaev. His brother Ibragim Yangulbaev is one of the leaders of the Chechen opposition movement “Adat” and the author of the telegram channel of the same name.

On July 4, 2023, Abubakar’s mother Zarema Musaeva was sentenced to five and a half years in prison in the case of fraud and violence against a police officer. Memorial recognized her as a political prisoner. On the day the verdict was announced in Grozny, unknown armed people “cruelly beat ” Novaya Gazeta journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov, who came to the hearing. They also received death threats.
