In Volgograd, the Krasnooktyabrsky District Court arrested for two months the wife of a contract soldier who fought in Ukraine, who starved to death her nine-month-old son. She was charged with murder.
According to investigators, on August 3, Ekaterina (her last name is not reported) left the child on the floor in the apartment and left home for several days. Without food and water, the baby died.
“I went on vacation, fed him for the last time and that’s it,” says Ekaterina in a video published by the joint press service of the courts of the Volgograd region.
According to local publication V1, the child’s body was discovered by the grandmother on August 7. And on the same day, police detained Ekaterina herself at the other end of Volgograd.
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Volgograd Region published a video of Ekaterina’s interrogation from the car, which was probably recorded immediately after her arrest. In the footage, she says that on August 3 she fed the baby “and generally left for work.” When asked if she appeared at home after that, Ekaterina replied: “I had nothing to do.”
During the suppression meeting, journalists asked Ekaterina why she had a nervous breakdown. “It’s just that he (the husband) wasn’t there and there was no help at all,” she answered.
When asked if she felt abandoned, Catherine only nodded slightly. At the same time, she said that she did not quarrel with her husband. Catherine’s husband, who serves under contract and is fighting in Ukraine, has reportedly returned home.
