Yandex is negotiating the sale of its Yango Israel service. about this with reference to its own sources . writes The Israeli publication Calcalist
According to him, Yandex’s intention to sell the company is connected with the requirement of the Russian government, from September 1, to provide the FSB with access to data on the trips of taxi customers in all countries where the service operates. At the same time, representatives of Yandex deny holding negotiations on the sale.
The sale of Yango to a foreign company will sever the service’s ties with Russia, and may also make it more competitive in the Israeli market, Calcalist claims.
In Israel, under the Yango brand, in addition to taxis, the Yango Wind scooter rental service and the Yango Deli delivery service operate.
In early August, Meduza, citing the results of its own investigation, wrote that from September 1, the FSB will have round-the-clock access to data on the trips of clients of the Yandex Go taxi service in Russia, as well as all foreign services owned by Yandex.
Yandex itself argued that this is not true and that “travel data can only be obtained by law enforcement agencies of the country where the trip was made” and that after September 1, “this logic will not change.”
However, after the investigation was released, the authorities of Finland and Norway issued an official ban on the transfer to Russia of data from clients of the foreign taxi service Yandex.
