In 2021, ex-senator Lebedev asked Zelensky to lift Ukrainian sanctions from him - “Agency”

In May 2021, former member of the Federation Council and co-owner of the Sintez group Leonid Lebedev asked President Vladimir Zelensky to lift Ukrainian sanctions against him. He wrote about this in a letter that was at the disposal of the Agency.

Lebedev claimed that in 2014 he did not vote for the use of the Russian army on Ukrainian territory. This, according to the ex-senator, should become the basis for his exclusion from the Ukrainian sanctions list.

In particular, in a letter written in Ukrainian, Lebedev reports that on March 1, 2014, he was not present and did not even participate in absentia in a meeting of the Federation Council. On that day, senators allowed Vladimir Putin to use Russian armed forces in Crimea. According to the transcript , 76 senators were not present at the meeting, and another 71 voted in absentia.

Leonid Lebedev served as senator from Chuvashia from 2002 to 2015. He resigned after the Federation Council commission began checking his tax return.

Lebedev published the letter to Zelensky after he was included in the list of “Dogs of War” compiled by the publication “Project” in July of this year. The editors later removed the former senator from this list.
