Chechen human rights activist Yangulbaev spoke about the criminal case brought against him for “terrorism”

According to Yangulbaev, the reason for initiating a criminal case was his post from 2022, in which he described the events that occurred on May 9, 2004, when Akhmat Kadyrov was killed, and wished the same death for his son, the current head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov.

“That is, I wished Ramzan Kadyrov the fate of his father. Apparently this offended Ramzan. Apparently in the man’s vulnerable heart he remembered the events that led to the murder of his father. Why did this happen, why, what awaits him, what is gnawing at him, what does not allow him to sleep normally, what upsets his mother,” writes Yangulbaev.

Yangulbaev called that post “hate content” and noted that he wanted to hurt a person with this “toxic comment.” Now, according to him, this publication is not on his channel. At the same time, Yangulbaev himself claims that he did not delete the post.

The then President of Chechnya, Akhmat Kadyrov, died on May 9, 2004 in an explosion at the Dynamo stadium in Grozny, which occurred immediately after the official part of the events dedicated to Victory Day had ended there.

Abubakar Yangulbaev is a Chechen human rights activist. His father is former judge of the Supreme Court of Chechnya Saidi Yangulbaev. His brother Ibragim Yangulbaev is one of the leaders of the Chechen opposition movement “Adat” and the author of the telegram channel of the same name. At the beginning of July 2022, the Ministry of Justice included this movement in the register of “extremist” organizations.

Yangulbaev’s mother Zarema Musaeva is currently serving a sentence in a case of fraud and violence against a police officer. She was sentenced to five and a half years in prison. Memorial recognized Musayeva as a political prisoner. On the day her verdict was announced in Chechnya, unknown armed people beat Novaya Gazeta journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov, who came to the hearing.

In early August, it became known that four of Yangulbaev’s relatives were forcibly sent to fight in Ukraine.
