The Canadian government has imposed sanctions against the Moscow City Court, Basmanny and Khamovnichesky district courts of Moscow. This is stated on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers.
“Canada continues to condemn the Kremlin’s persistent and systematic human rights violations that support Russia’s brutal war of aggression against Ukraine. We call on [Russian President] Vladimir Putin to immediately put an end to these violations and stop his illegal and unjustified invasion of Ukraine,” Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said.
The press release said the courts were "directly involved in human rights violations against Russian opposition leaders, including Vladimir Kara-Murza, Alexei Navalny and other Russian citizens."
On August 17, the US Treasury imposed sanctions against FSB officers Alexei Alexandrov, Konstantin Kudryavtsev, Ivan Osipov and Vladimir Panyaev, involved in the poisoning of politician Alexei Navalny. The US government believes that FSB officers used the nerve agent Novichok.
