Transgender girl, ex-FSB employee, fined in state secrets case

The Moscow regional court fined transgender girl Katerina Myers 300 thousand rubles in the case of violation requirements for the protection of state secrets, Mediazona reports, citing her lawyer Konstantin Erokhin.

According to the publication, Myers was tried for attempting to travel abroad in December 2022 - due to the access she had to state secrets during her service, she should not leave the country until 2026. The defendant admitted guilt and will not appeal the verdict. She wanted to leave Russia because of the threats she received.

In June 2023, Mediazona discovered 22 criminal cases in progress under the law adopted in the summer of 2022 article - “Violation of requirements for the protection of state secrets.” The article provides for a fine, a suspended or real term of up to seven years for citizens of the Russian Federation who left the country, whose right to travel abroad was limited due to access to state secrets. Most of the defendants, as the publication found out, traveled to Abkhazia. In addition, in all cases known to date, the defendants were sentenced only to fines.
