Spanish media specify that the football player was told the news by her mother, who came to see her in the last days of the championship.

“It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Olga Carmona’s father. The football player learned the sad news after the World Cup final. We send our deepest hugs to Olga and her family at this time of deep pain,” the RFEF said in a release.

Carmona also announced her father's death on social media. “I know that you have given me the strength to achieve something great. I know that you have been watching me and are proud of me. Rest in peace, dad,” she wrote.
