Rostelecom tests a service that can be used for YouTube censorship

Rostelecom sent his employees a letter with a proposal to test the “internal service of access to YouTube”. This document was at the disposal of the profile telegram channel "Zelecom".

The letter says that the provider has created a special site ytonline.ru, which allows you to watch video from YouTube. According to Zatelecom, on August 18 this site was available to all Russian users and through it you could watch any video, including Navalny's investigations. On August 21, the site was already inaccessible - when trying to go, the browser writes that "the connection is rejected."

A similar service can become a tool for censoring YouTube. The telegram channel “We can explain” said the Executive Director of the Internet Protection Society and the author of the Zelecom channel Mikhail Klimarev.

“Direct access to YouTube will be blocked, but you can watch the video from it through the“ gasket ” - this portal of Rostelecom. Only not everything is: Kotikov and cooking - please, but he will not miss the sore heale from the point of view of power, ”he explained.

According to Klimarev, the use of such a laying service can become a compromise scenario between the complete blocking of YouTube and the current unlimited access to it for Russian users, which "the authorities obviously does not suit."

Klimarev noted that the introduction of such a filter after making an appropriate decision will take about two months. According to him, there are no technical difficulties and there are no serious financial costs for this.
