British nurse Lucy Letby sentenced to life in prison for murder of seven babies
A UK court has sentenced 33-year-old nurse Lucy Letby to life imprisonment for the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six others. this . reports Reuters

“This was a cruel, calculated and cynical campaign to kill children, targeting the youngest and most vulnerable of them,” said Judge James Goss, who handed down the sentence.
Letby was also denied parole.
“There was deep malice in your actions, bordering on sadism... You have no remorse. There are no mitigating circumstances,” the judge said.
On August 18, the court found Letby guilty of murdering seven babies.
The BBC notes in its investigation that the management of the hospital where the murders took place did not promptly investigate suspicions against the nurse. Some doctors noticed Letby's strange behavior back in 2015. However, instead of paying attention to this, the head of the hospital demanded that the doctors apologize in writing to Letby and stop making accusations against her.
In addition, infant deaths were not properly reported, leaving the UK's NHS unable to address the hospital's unusually high mortality rate.
Although Letby was found guilty of killing seven children, she was on shift when six more babies died. The police began to investigate these cases. Two children also died at Liverpool Women's Hospital while Lethby was working there.
