Last Friday it became known that a criminal case had been opened against the human rights activist for public calls for terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). According to Yangulbaev, the reason for this was his post from 2022, in which he described the murder of Akhmat Kadyrov, and wished the same death for his son Ramzan Kadyrov . Before this, the media also reported that a criminal case had been opened against Yangulbaev for “organizing an extremist group.”

Abubakar Yangulbaev is a former lawyer of the Committee against Torture. His entire family is being persecuted by Chechen and Russian authorities for criticizing Ramzan Kadyrov . Thus, at the end of 2021, a criminal case was opened against the brothers of human rights activist Ibragim and Baysangur, the founders of the Chechen opposition movement Adat, for calls for terrorism. The reason for this was posts in the telegram channel “1ADAT”. They are also wanted.
The brothers' father is retired federal judge Saidi Yangulbaev. In 2022, he and his daughter left Russia after Chechen security forces kidnapped his wife Zarema Musaeva . In July of this year, she was sentenced to 5.5 years in a general regime colony on charges of assault on a security officer and fraud. Other relatives of the Yangulbaevs, according to Abubakar, were forcibly sent to fight in Ukraine.
