Three citizens of the country who acted in the interests of the FSB were arrested in Latvia

The State Security Service (SGB) of Latvia arrested three citizens of the country on suspicion of activities carried out on behalf of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia and sent against the security of the Latvian state and citizens, the LSM.LV portal with reference to the department reports.

According to SGB, a criminal case against these persons was opened on August 1, 2023 - for assisting another state in activities directed against Latvia.

During the investigation, the service carried out criminal procedure actions for fourteen objects related to individuals in Riga and other regions of Latvia, a large number of carriers of information and documents were seized.

The information obtained during the SGB investigation indicates that persons on behalf of the FSB of Russia "carried out actions aimed at freedom of action, immunity, economic, social and physical security of other persons."

As part of the criminal process, three suspects are currently in custody. In relation to another person involved, there is a ban on departure from the country.

Earlier, the head of the SGB of Latvia Normund Intervates in an interview with the LTV de Facto program said that over the past two years, the country's state security authorities managed to detain several people who have been “in service” among the special services of Russia and Belarus. Cases of open espionage are mainly related to the delivery of information for military intelligence.
