Now Norwegian authorities are planning to restore the reindeer herding barrier along the border with Russia, which was built in 1954. Its length is 150 kilometers. According to the Associated Press, construction is planned to be completed by October 1. It will cost the budget $348 thousand.

In turn, Natalya Polikarpova, director of the Murmansk Pasvik Nature Reserve, told the BRIEF telegram channel that the Norwegian authorities are presenting information distortedly. “These reindeer are slaughtered for meat every year by the Norwegian side, this is the business of the reindeer herders. They present such distorted information. It's like they were forced to do it. This is deceiving Norwegian readers,” she said.

Earlier, Polikarpova noted that the animals were discovered on the territory of the reserve in December 2022. Some of them have been in Russia since 2019. However, according to her, due to the “pandemic and geopolitical circumstances” it was only now possible to return the deer. At the same time, Polikarpova added that the deer were domestic, and 40 individuals for a reserve with an area of ​​14.7 thousand hectares is “a lot.”
