A case was opened against mathematician Azat Miftakhov under Part 1 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code - public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism or propaganda of terrorism. this Rosfinmonitoring reported to RTVI.
Under this article, Miftakhov could face a fine of 100 to 500 thousand rubles or imprisonment for a term of two to five years. At the same time, Rosfinmonitoring refused to provide details of this case.
In 2019, Miftakhov was detained in connection with the illegal production of explosives. Then he was beaten, but released. However, a little later he was detained again, this time on charges of hooliganism. He was accused of setting fire to the United Russia office in the Moscow district of Khovrino and was sentenced to six years in prison.
On August 17, 2023, Rosfinmonitoring included him in the list of terrorists and extremists. The RTVI department explained that this list includes only those against whom cases have already been initiated under “terrorist” and “extremist” articles or those whom security forces suspect of involvement in such crimes.
