Anti-war arsonist arrested in St. Petersburg

A court in St. Petersburg sent Ivan Semenov to a pre-trial detention center until October 25, who is accused of setting fire to a recruitment center for contract military service. The case was classified as a “ commitment terrorist attack by a group by prior conspiracy.” However, who else was part of the “group” is unknown.

On August 26, Semyonov tried to set fire to the contract recruitment building. According to eyewitnesses, he broke the glass of the building with a brick, and then threw a Molotov cocktail. As a result, no fire occurred. Semenov was immediately detained by staff at the recruitment point, then he was handed over to the police.

Anti-war activists have been setting fire to military commissariats and other government buildings since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Since February 2022, more than 100 such cases have been recorded .
