The Kremlin knows nothing about the upcoming funeral of Yevgeny Prigozhin. This was stated by presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov. According to him, the decision on the burial of the head of the PMC Wagner will depend on his relatives.
“I don’t have any information about the funeral yet, so I can’t say anything. Surely, as soon as a decision is made, it will be made public. Such decisions are always made together with relatives and are primarily based on the decision of relatives,” Peskov said.
To a clarifying question about whether Vladimir Putin would be able to attend Prigozhin’s funeral, Peskov replied: “We don’t know yet when and how [the funeral will take place], so there can be no answer to this question now.”
Fontanka's sources in the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that Prigozhin's security service does not make contact with the security forces and is keeping preparations for the burial secret. The President of the Russian Union of Funeral Organizations and Crematoriums, Pavel Kodysh, told Fontanka that not a single cemetery in St. Petersburg is preparing for the funeral of the head of the PMC Wagner.
The publication also notes that as of the morning of August 28, journalists had information that Yevgeny Prigozhin, Dmitry Utkin and Valery Chekalov would be buried on August 29 at the Serafimovskoye cemetery. However, then journalists received a new clarification that it had been decided to change the burial place. Who and why it was adopted is not reported.
