The Office of the Investigative Committee for the annexed DPR has completed its investigation into the murder of the first head of the self-proclaimed republic, Alexander Zakharchenko, committed in the center of Donetsk in 2018. this TASS reports with reference to sources in law enforcement agencies.
According to them, there are four defendants in the criminal case of Zakharchenko’s murder. The main one, Alexander Pogorelov, is charged with several episodes of espionage (Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), encroachment on the life of a statesman (Article 277 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), committing a terrorist attack resulting in death (Part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), passing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities (Article 205.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), participation in the terrorist community (Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), as well as illegal trafficking in explosives (Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Two more defendants - Artem Ena and Vasily Churilov - are accused of facilitating terrorist activities (Part 3 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In addition, Churilov is also charged with participation in a terrorist community (Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The fourth defendant in this case, Alexander Timoshenko, is charged with two counts of espionage (Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and preparation for it.
As TASS reports, the materials of the criminal case have already been received by the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don. The first meeting is scheduled for August 30.
The first head of the self-proclaimed DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko, was mortally wounded in an explosion in the Separ cafe in the center of Donetsk on August 31, 2018. His bodyguard died along with him, and 12 more people were injured.
