The parents of a boy with SMA went on a picket to the prosecutor's office of the Sverdlovsk region

The parents of three-year-old Misha Bakhtin, who suffers from spinal muscular atrophy of the first type, went out on a picket to the building of the prosecutor's office of the Sverdlovsk region. Misha’s mother, Yana Bakhtina, told Kholod about this.

The boy’s father, Dmitry Bakhtin, stood up with a poster “MZSO (Ministry of Health of the Sverdlovsk Region - note “Cold”) does not provide a disabled child with the medicine he is prescribed.” According to Yana Bakhtina, soon after the picket began, police approached Dmitry and checked his documents, but did not detain him. She also said that representatives of the prosecutor’s office came to them, but refused to communicate in the presence of the media.

Since the end of August, this is the third picket that the boy’s parents have attended. On August 30, they held a rally on Red Square in Moscow, and on August 31, at the White House . The Bakhtins are seeking the state to provide treatment with the drug Risdiplam. According to them, officials refuse this because the treatment is very expensive and if it is provided to one sick child, then more will come for it.

In turn, government officials say that Misha’s parents themselves began “experimental treatment” for the boy and now they themselves must be responsible for its continuation or cancellation. According to them, in February, at the age of 21, Misha was given an injection of the drug "Zolgensma" (which the parents do not deny - note "Cold"), and taking "Risdiplam" after that could be dangerous for the child. At the same time, the Bakhtins claim that they began treatment with Risdiplam as prescribed by a doctor whose name they do not want to name, and achieved positive results.
