At least from the beginning of August, the structures of the Russian Guard began to hire former mercenaries of the Wagner PMC from among the pardoned prisoners, found out Important Stories . Journalists found relevant messages in closed chats of relatives of Wagnerites.

Several relatives of former prisoners with whom the publication spoke said that their loved ones from the colonies were recruited into the Wagner PMC, after which they were invited to serve in the Russian Guard. However, not everyone was able to pass the test. One of the women told reporters that her relative was able to get into the Russian Guard only because he was serving time in a colony on a minor charge.

She said that the former mercenary of the Wagner PMC passed a standard security check, provided the papers that the PMC gave him at the end of the contract, as well as a pardon document. The National Guard also requested a certificate of criminal record and sent a request to the colony where the man was serving his sentence. Then the information was transferred to the FSB, the verification took a week.

The correspondent of “Important Stories”, under the guise of a former mercenary of the Wagner PMC, called several units of the Russian Guard. In the 2nd battalion of the Moscow National Guard, he was told that he had a chance to get into service even without experience in the regular army, but it all depended on the “nature of the crime committed” and how long ago the person was imprisoned. The correspondent spoke about the “narcotic” article (228 of the Criminal Code), to which he was told that with such a criminal record they would not be able to hire him.

Introducing himself as a former mercenary of the Wagner PMC, who was convicted of theft (Article 158 of the Criminal Code), the publication’s correspondent called the Russian Guard in Rostov-on-Don. The personnel department offered him to sign a contract as a member of the National Guard and go to guard strategic facilities in the annexed Donetsk region. An employee of the department clarified that former prisoners will not be able to get military service in the Rostov National Guard itself. At the same time, she admitted that this is possible with a criminal record expunged under Article 228 of the Criminal Code, but only with the approval of management.

Earlier, a message appeared in the chat of relatives of Wagnerites that the PMC was suspending the recruitment of mercenaries. After the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, Bloomberg wrote that control over the company’s activities in Africa and the Middle East would come under the control of the Ministry of Defense.
