A monument to the founder and leader of the Cheka, Felix Dzerzhinsky, was erected at the headquarters of the Foreign Intelligence Service in Moscow. this . reports RIA Novosti

The head of the SVR, Sergei Naryshkin, spoke at the opening ceremony of the monument. He noted that the established moment is an exact, but slightly reduced, copy of the monument to Dzerzhinsky, which previously stood on Lubyanka Square in Moscow. According to Naryshkin, even the face of the sculpture looks in the same direction - to the northwest - towards Poland and the Baltic states. “Threats to our country, to our citizens from the north-west [remain] - yes, this is obvious,” Naryshkin explained.

“The image of the chairman of the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission became one of the symbols of his time, the standard of crystal honesty, dedication and fidelity to duty. His catchphrases that only a person with a cool head, a warm heart and clean hands can become a security officer have become a significant moral guideline for several generations of security officials in our country,” he added.

According to Naryshkin, Dzerzhinsky “remained to the end true to his ideals - the ideals of goodness and justice.”

In the Soviet Union, the monument to Felix Dzerzhinsky, created by sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich and architect Grigory Zakharov, stood on Lubyanka Square opposite the KGB building. In 1991, after the failure of the putsch organized by the Emergency Committee, the monument was dismantled.
