The Communist Party of the Russian Federation noticeably worsened the results of the September 8-10 elections to regional parliaments, as follows from the voting results published in the GAS “Elections” system. In most regions, the party lost between a third and half of the vote compared to the elections five years ago. And in Yakutia, “New People” took second place instead of the communists. The only place where the communists retained their position was Khakassia, where the party, as in 2018, won the elections of the head and parliament.

According to the State Automated System “Elections”, the saddest results for the Communist Party of the Russian Federation were the results of parliamentary elections in the Trans-Baikal Territory, Irkutsk, Yaroslavl, Ivanovo and Smolensk regions . In all these regions, the party has lost more than half of its result five years ago. The largest collapse of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation occurred in the Ivanovo region, where the party received 10.08% of the votes instead of 26.92% five years earlier. In the Trans-Baikal Territory, the party gained only 9.85% compared to 24.59% five years earlier. In addition, the Communist Party lost second place in Yakutia, where it was ahead of “New People” with a result of 14.17%. They were led to the elections by State Duma deputy Sardana Avksentyeva, the former mayor of Yakutsk and one of the frontmen of New People. Political strategists who worked in Yakutia told Vorstka that Avksentieva received “free hands in campaigning” from local authorities in exchange for her non-nomination to the head of the republic.

The only opposition region remained Khakassia. Not only the communist governor won there, but also his party. In the elections to the Supreme Council of Khakassia, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation received 39.11%, immediately improving the result of five years ago by 8%. United Russia, however, also increased support to 36.41% (25.46% in 2018). The parliament in Khakassia will become a three-party one - in addition to the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and United Russia, only the Liberal Democratic Party got into it with 7.17%.
