The European Council extended personal sanctions against Russian oligarchs for six months

The European Council decided to extend personal sanctions against Russians who are “responsible for violating the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.” However, the statement notes that after a review of the sanctions, they were lifted from four unnamed people.

According to Reuters sources, sanctions were lifted from the owner of the RBC media holding Grigory Berezkin, billionaire Fariz Akhmedov and Ozon CEO Alexander Shulgin. In addition to them, sanctions could be lifted from Colonel of the Russian Armed Forces Georgy Shuvaev due to his death on October 1, 2022, Reuters reports.

Personal sanctions include restrictions on movement, freezing of foreign financial assets and a ban on the transfer of money or other economic resources. There are currently almost 1,800 people on EU sanctions lists linked to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
