On September 15, the “Protection Committee for the Protection of Journalist_k” appealed to the Latvian authorities with an appeal to investigate possible hacker attacks against Russian journalist_k working in Latvia. The committee believes that they became the target of hackers.

On September 13 and 14, four Russian journalist_ki reported that they received the notifications from Apple about the possible attack of their pro -government hackers. Galina Timchenko, the general director of Novaya Gazeta Europe, Maria Epifanova, correspondent for Novaya Gazeta Baltic, Evgeny Pavlov and the former Baltic chief of the TV channel, Yevgeny Erlich, received identical notification of the attack, working in Latvia. The human rights organization Access Now determined that the PEGASUS spy program was installed on the Timchenko’s phone.

The coordinator of the programs of the Committee on Europe and Central Asia Gunoza Said called on the Latvian authorities to conduct a “quick and transparent investigation of these accusations and ensure the digital and physical security of journalists who temporarily or constantly live in the country.”
