Moldova can join the European Union without Transnistria - the country's Foreign Ministry

Moldova admits the possibility of joining the European Union without the territory of Transnistria. This was stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European integration of Moldova, reports Newsmaker .

The Foreign Ministry noted that the Moldovan authorities want a peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, while maintaining the European path of the state. According to them, the main goal of the country is to join the European Union as a reintegrated country.

"Another option could be the accession to the EU of that part of the territory that is under the control of Chisinau authorities, which the Supreme EU Supreme EU for foreign affairs and security policy, Josep Borrel, previously stated, with the subsequent resolution of the conflict," the ministry said.

According to the fighter, the Transnistrian conflict is not an obstacle to Moldova’s entry into the EU.

"If Moldova does not join the EU as a reintegrated country, Kishinev’s authorities, together with international partners, will continue to look for ways to resolve the Transnistrian conflict even after joining the EU," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

In turn, Moldova President Maya Sandu in an interview with France 24 stated that the conditions for resolving the Transnistrian conflict may appear after Ukraine wins the war with Russia.

“We believe that when Ukraine wins the war, a geopolitical opportunity may appear to resolve the Transnistrian conflict. But provided that this will happen peacefully. In the meantime, we are preparing for this geopolitical opportunity,” Sandu said.

She expressed the hope that after resolving the conflict, Moldova would be able to become a member of the European Union.

Transnistria is one of the regions of Moldova, who announced his independence back in 1990. Currently, the Russian military base is located on the territory of the unrecognized republic. Its composition is about 1,700 people, for the most part these are natives of Transnistria with Russian citizenship.
