The Central District Court of Novokuznetsk fined Denis Mamchits one and a half thousand rubles because of the song “Kill the Cosmonauts.” This was reported by the SOVA research center; information about the case is in the court file.
Mamchits was found guilty under the article on public dissemination of extremist materials (Article 20.29 of the Administrative Code). According to SOVA, an audio recording with the song “Kill the Cosmonauts” was found on the man’s page on the social network.
The lyrics of the song were recognized as extremist material and banned in 2017. Since then, Russian residents have been repeatedly fined for distributing audio recordings.
Like many other songs of the Tver group “Ensemble of Christ the Savior and Mother of Cheese Earth,” it ridicules religious fundamentalists. Old woman Izergil, a character played by Alexander Konstantinov, calls for killing cosmonauts because “they climb into the sky and do what is not allowed by God,” wants “only Russians to live in the world,” and prohibits scientific progress.
- The SOVA Center considers the ban on the song “Kill the Cosmonauts” to be unlawful. According to human rights activists, the song is satirical and ridicules obscurantism and primitive religiosity, and calls for reprisals against astronauts cannot be taken seriously.
