Politician Alexei Navalny was sent to a punishment cell on the territory of IK-6 in the Vladimir region for the twentieth time - for four days. This was reported on Navalny’s Twitter.
Taking into account the new penalty, the total period he spent in the punishment cell will increase to 224 days.
On September 12, Navalny ended up in the punishment cell for the 19th time; he was released from there at five o’clock in the evening on September 21. At eight in the morning on September 22, the politician was again placed in the isolation ward. Navalny himself associates the short period for which he was sent to the punishment cell this time with the upcoming meeting of the appellate court, which is considering his claims against the colony. “The colony will be able to say: “We are not violating his rights in any way, he’s not even in a punishment cell.” So cute,” he commented.
In a colony, an oppositionist regularly faces pressure; Since August 2022, he began to be regularly placed in a punishment cell. Shortly before the first such incident, he announced the creation of the Industrial Zone trade union for prisoners and colony employees.
Navalny said that being in a punishment cell has a bad effect on his health - he experiences attacks of suffocation and loses weight. After one of his placements in the punishment cell, the politician fell ill , but his lawyers were forbidden to give the prisoner medicine. In addition, sick prisoners who were previously in the medical unit are regularly assigned to Navalny in the punishment cell.
The oppositionist’s lawyer, Vadim Kobzev, believes that the colony’s leadership is deliberately making sure that Navalny’s health gradually deteriorates. In April, the defense lawyer said that employees of the colony administration staged a provocation against the oppositionist and used force against him. In addition, a former prisoner reported that a separate building was built for Navalny in IK-6 and a detachment of “informers” was assembled.
- Navalny was detained in January 2021, when he was returning from Germany to Russia after suffering from poisoning . At the same time, the court replaced the suspended sentence to which the politician had previously been sentenced in the Yves Rocher case with a real one.
