More than 80 people were detained in protests in Yerevan

More than 80 people were detained on Friday at street protests in Yerevan. Demonstrators require the resignation of the head of the government of Armenia Nikola Pashinyan. They tried to block the entrance to the government building in order to prevent deputies and officials.

Among the detainees is the son of the second president of Armenia Levon Kocharian. According to his lawyer, Kocharyan was beaten by police during the detention, he was taken to the hospital. One of the leaders of protest, the former opposition deputy Andranik Tevanyan, was also detained, he was already released from the police department.

Demonstrations in Yerevan continue the fourth day. They began after the Armenian government agreed to a truce in the Nagorno -Karabakh (Armenian name - Artsakh) on the terms of Azerbaijan. Under these conditions, the unrecognized republic loses autonomy and goes under complete Azerbaijani control.

Protesters demand that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan resign, and military and humanitarian assistance was provided to Nagorno-Karabakh.

Yesterday, during the rally, the opposition called for blocking the streets of Yerevan since this morning and do this until Pashinyan is removed from power. “I assure you, with disciplined and joint efforts, this will happen in a very short time, even within a few days,” said Andranik Tevanyan.

Students and teachers of many educational institutions joined the protest (they announced a strike): the Yerevan Medical University, the Armenian-Russian University, the French University in Armenia, students of the Yerevan branch of Moscow State University, the Yerevan State Institute and Theater and Films, students of the Bryusov University.
