In Ivanovo, a local resident was fined two million rubles for posts about Stalin and World War II

The Ivanovo Regional Court found local resident architect Sergei Volkov guilty of a criminal article on the rehabilitation of Nazism (Part 2 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code) and fined him two million rubles. This was reported by “Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial".

The reason for the criminal case against Volkov, initiated in May 2022, was his posts in his telegram channel “Slavic-pagan culture today.” In particular, two of them, where he criticized Joseph Stalin, blaming him for the siege of Leningrad.

“There was no German blockade ring. Stalin abandoned the city as unnecessary and almost captured. Although there were opportunities to supply food there. And one important detail: the Nazis were cleared of the blockade of Nuremberg. Why do you think?” — Volkov wrote in one of them.

During the trial, the prosecution referred to the results of the examination, which stated that Volkov’s judgments contradict “the scientific paradigm of the Great Patriotic War in Russian historiography” and “contain attempts to discredit the highest military-political leadership of the USSR for inaction, cowardice or inhumane actions towards to its population."

In February 2022, the case against Volkov was considered by a jury. The trial continued until a verdict was reached, which the judge read but did not announce, first citing an error in the question paper and then alleging suspicion of bias on the part of one of the jurors. After this, the judge dismissed the jury and decided to start the trial anew. Volkov's lawyers then said that the jury's verdict was probably not guilty.
