The editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta Europe, Kirill Martynov, demanded that the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, be brought to criminal responsibility because of a video in which his minor son Adam Kadyrov beats Nikita Zhuravel, a suspect in the burning of the Koran.

Martynov sent a corresponding appeal to the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov and to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin.

“I learned from open sources that the minor son of the head of the Chechen Republic, Adam Kadyrov, beat a prisoner in a pre-trial detention center in Grozny. The head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, openly welcomes and encourages this act, and also publishes a video of the beating. Kadyrov forces his son to use violence against prisoners, which is not only prohibited by the laws of the Russian Federation, but also causes obvious harm to the interests of the minor,” Martynov wrote.

He emphasized that he sees in the actions of Kadyrov Sr. signs of failure by parents of minors to fulfill their responsibilities for the maintenance and upbringing of minors (Article 5.35 of the Administrative Code), as well as the involvement of a minor in committing a crime (Article 150 of the Criminal Code).

“In accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation, I demand that an investigation be carried out into the circumstances of the beating recorded on video, and that the beaten prisoner be recognized as a victim,” Martynov added.

He also appealed to the Commissioner for Children's Rights under the President of Russia, Maria Lvova-Belova, with a request to “intervene in the situation” and “protect the legitimate interests of Adam Kadyrov.” “Children in the Russian Federation should not grow up to be prison executioners, even if their father considers this a worthy career,” Martynov emphasized.

In August, it became known that in the pre-trial detention center of Grozny in Chechnya, the 15-year-old son of Ramzan Kadyrov, Adam, beat Nikita Zhuravel, who was there, and was suspected of burning the Koran. Messages about this were confirmed by Chechen Minister of National Policy Akhmed Dudayev, and Speaker of the Chechen Parliament Magomed Daudov and State Duma Deputy Adam Delimkhanov publicly approved the actions of Kadyrov Jr.
