In Turkey, Russian activist Anastasia Emelyanova, who opposed domestic violence, died. Her partner admitted to the murder

At the end of September, the St. Petersburg activist Anastasia Emelyanova died in Turkey. She was a member of the anti-war rallies, a member of the “Party of the Dead” and the Vesna movement , helped the project to combat the gender inequality of “Eva” and “Open Space” and led the Utyub-channel about feminism. The body of 32-year-old Emelyanova was found in a rented apartment in Erzurum. Her young man during the interrogation admitted that he wounded the girl with a fragment of glass. She loved to embroider, cook vegan foods, meet friends. She planned to live, ”the girl wrote.

Anastasia Emelyanova arrived in St. Petersburg from Novosibirsk in 2013. She entered St. Petersburg State University at the Department of Mathematical Linguistics of the Faculty of Philology. Then the girl was carried away by activism.

Anastasia made copyright embroideries on political topics on bags, clothes, pillows, was among the participants of the Ugodina and Party of the Dead and did not miss, according to friends, not a single feminist rally and a picket in St. Petersburg.

We lived together [in a shelter for activists, and then rented an apartment together], and I knew her for the past year and a half. She always impressed me with a very responsible person. She worked in the research center and talked about how she tests research, studies literature in English. She also knew the Italian, and in Turkey ( recently Emelyanova lived in this country - approx. Medusa ) taught Turkish.

In January 2020, a group of Petersburg feminists, among whom were Daria Apakhonchich and Leda Garina , released the collection "Tales for Girls." This is a book of children's fairy tales without patriarchal stereotypes with an emphasis on bright female images. She was very brave. If we had any political performance, for example, Vulva-Bale ( an action in support of Julia Tsvetkova , which was tried for the drawings of Vulva, approx. Medusa ), she certainly took part there. It was her some inner desire-to show solidarity. It was a very important feeling for her.

Daria Apakhonchich met Anastasia in St. Petersburg in 2016, during the organization “Alas, a parade for alas of patriots”, to which the girls came out with posters “Born, suffered, died” and “Russia is not us”. On Facebook, Apakhonchich notes that “Nastya was an amazingly responsive and light person: to come to the campaign at dawn, to make something, cook, invent, Nastya fit, helped, organized, supported.”

Anastasia was also in the team of vegan activists who developed an application that allows to determine the barcode whether the goods are ethical or not. In December 2019, the project closed and activists announced the sale of the application code.

One of the latest projects by Emelyanova “Cheat” is the protection of the rights of schoolchildren, parents and teachers. In the chat of the project, one could ask a question about how to conduct “talk about the important” or what to do if the school leadership presses you due to an anti-war position. In the “cheat sheet”, Anastasia was developing manuals, was a bottle of bot and worked on the overall development of the project.

One of the most important topics in Emelyanova’s activity was the problem of domestic violence: “We did several videos about this on the channel,” recalls Varya Mikhailova, “endlessly discussed at various events, she had an author’s project with posters about domestic violence, she made promotions in support of the Khachaturian sisters.”

And at some point it became clear that it would be completely dangerous for her to stay, and she left for Turkey. It seems to me that here [in St. Petersburg] she was happy.

At the end of June, Anastasia told Twitter that she meets a young man - a refugee from Syria: "War from all sides, and I am again in love, what will you do?" - the girl quoted the lines from the song. The young man worked as a barista in a Turkish cafe.

The latest notes by Anastasia in social networks - dated September 20. Prior to this, the girl writes about remote work at the Hannah Arendt research center, life in the new country and plans to get married.

The young man writes extremely positive, even mentioning small conflicts: “I freaked out because the nizar works from 17 to 01, then sleeps up to 15 and spends the night in the basement, but I didn’t come here so that I couldn’t see him, all came in tears and complaints. He promised to take the weekend, and spend the night with me, took it to work, put it on the chair, made Latte on Soyov. ”

Nastya did not see danger in this person, because he did not show any signs of danger: he behaved courteously, was caring. And Nastya did not work, because there was nothing, apparently. And in this sense, I think that we must reconsider how we teach our children, how we are talking about violence. Because we have the idea of ​​“first bells” and this is right, but we must understand that sometimes there are no first calls.

In September, the couple rented an apartment in Erzurum. Soon, Anastasia planned to go on an interview about a residence permit. On September 20, she stopped in touch with her friends. “Nastya was a very responsible person, she would not just disappear. I would not especially stop contacting my mother, ”says Anastasia Polozkova.

Friends of Anastasia united in social networks, and two girls went to the police in Istanbul to apply. Police officers refused to look for a girl, advised to contact the consulate. The consulate at first told them that they needed a statement from the mother, and then they stopped answering calls. The police also did not accept the application for a long time.

According to the Turkish edition of Hürriyet, on September 20, at about 11 pm, a quarrel that the neighbors heard heard between young people. A little later, Nizar turned to one of them, saying that Anastasia was injured. By the time the ambulance arrived, the girl died from blood loss.

When detained, Nizar said that the girl accidentally cut her leg on a coffee table crashing during a quarrel, but changed his testimony during interrogation, saying that he himself wounded Emelyanov.

She always clarified many points that we are just learning to clarify in a conversation. And, despite this, she was in such a situation. But violence occurs regardless of whether we are ready for it or not.
